On Sunday 30th October, Home-Start staff and volunteers turned out in force at Brent Cross to raise awareness of our work in Barnet and Harrow. Wearing bright orange t-shirts, you couldnt have missed them! They were supported by the Hampstead Rock Choir and the N12 Community choir who sang throughout the day, bringing smiles to the faces of hundreds of shoppers who stopped to listen and clap to the music. The choirs sang with gusto and such obvious enjoyment, and as people stopped to watch, they were able to pick up leaflets about the work we do and take part in a competition to guess the number of jelly beans in a jar? Who could resist the call of the Lion King or the romantic pull of Bill Withers “Lean on Me” and many other popular songs? There was something for everyone, and one lady who passed by commented “Its just so lovely to see people singing together”
Volunteers worked tirelessly, carrying collection buckets throughout the day and managed to raise a whopping £1,107 for Home-Start Barnet, which is absolutely fantastic!
One hard working volunteer, Ayman Akif, was rewarded with a £20 voucher as he correctly guessed the number of jelly beans in the jar – his guess of 1500 was the closest to the correct number which was 1322!
