Kirpal Dhadda – CEO
I’ve been with the organisation since September 2004. My background includes working in the City and running my own business. I hold a degree in Computing and an MBA from the University of Bradford. I’m married to a lecturer and have three children who keep me on my toes. Working for Home-Start Barnet is very rewarding, where everyone works as one big happy team, including staff, trustees, volunteers, referrers, funders and not forgetting our families we support.
Trupti Makwana – Operations Manager
My previous experience has been mainly in the field of childcare. I started working as a Parent & Toddler development worker for the Pre-School Learning Alliance on a part-time basis. I was responsible for promoting good practice and advising on setting up Parent and Toddler group provision. I was also responsible for setting up childcare provision within the community in Barnet, of which 3 settings have been OFSTED registered. I joined the SureStart team as a Community Development Worker, my role at SureStart changed over the years as the programme grew. I currently work as Operations Manager at Home-Start Barnet. On a personal note, I am married with two children. I hold a degree in Education and History. I also studied the Childcare Cache course Level 3 and completed the Assessors’ course D32 & D33 in Childcare.
Luci Yellon – Volunteer Manager
I worked as a PA running the private practice for a Cardiac Surgeon for many years. I then changed career and worked as a pre-school teacher for 8 years before becoming a volunteer for Home-Start Barnet. I supported a number of families as well as doing some administration and then was fortunate to be offered the post of Volunteer Manager which I love. I am married with two boys.
Suzanne Foreman – Family Support Manager
I first joined Home-Start as a volunteer and became the volunteer representative on the Management Committee. I joined the Home-Start Barnet team as a part-time coordinator in January 2005, and then project managed the wonderful Think Family Sunday project. After studying languages at Manchester University I worked as an Accountant for a few years, before moving into the recruitment industry, where I ended up managing the Marketing division. I am married with four children and two dogs!
Tamar Glyn – Senior Coordinator (Harrow)
I am very excited to have started working for Home-Start Barnet Harrow Project as the Senior Co-ordinator for Home Start Harrow. For the past two years I have been supporting families as a Home-Start volunteer, which I have found incredibly rewarding. I have a professional background in teaching, television production and charity fundraising. Outside of work I’m am very lucky to have two great sons and a very lovely husband. My job now is to work with the Home-Start team to increase the number of families we support throughout the London Borough of Harrow.
Cathy Kirkman – Family Coordinator
Hello, my background is nursery nursing. I have a NNEB Qualification and have worked in many different settings including Social Services, Children Centres, private Day Nurseries, Schools and the Primary Care Trust. I joined Home-Start Barnet as a Family Coordinator in 2007 and have built solid relationships not only with the staff but with all the volunteers and the families that we support. This has to be my second best job that I ever enjoyed as it is very rewarding and satisfying; my first best job is being a Mum to my teenage daughter! Since coming to Home-Start Barnet, I have never looked back – that’s how good it is!
Kirsty McDonnell – Finance & Administration Officer
I started work with Home-Start Barnet in April 2012. I have 11 years experience in Admin, having worked in 2 very busy offices and I have 7 years experience in Finance. Everyone at Home-Start Barnet is extremely friendly and lovely to work with and it’s such a pleasure to come into work each day. I am a Mum to two boys.
Grace Hosken – Business Administration Officer
A South African, I took a career break in 2009 and went to Taiwan to teach English to little children. It was a great adventure and I learned a lot in my five years there, including how to ride a scooter on roads where red, yellow and green traffic lights all mean Go, and stop signs are optional! I have a UK Ancestry visa and moved here early in 2014 to be closer to family. I joined the team in March 2014, initially as a part-time Temp, but now in a permanent capacity. My colleagues are delightfully wacky but do wonderful work and I love working with them. I live in Chipping Barnet with my partner and Kimchi, our slightly demented but beautiful cat.
Gilly Chowdry – Harrow Family Support Coordinator
I’m Gilly and I’ve been with Home-Start Barnet since January 2010 when I began the course to become a home visiting volunteer. Two years later, I started working in the office on a voluntary basis for 6 hours a week. This work increased and became official some months later. Then in April 2013, I trained to run Parenting Programmes and also became a family coordinator. A year later, I took over from Leonie supporting families in Harrow due to funding from the John Lyon’s charity, who approached Home-Start Barnet when Home-Start Harrow closed down due to funding cuts. My hours have steadily increased and I now work for 25 hours a week. Before working for Home-Start, I was a full time mum of two children.
Leonie Hanson – Project Coordinator
I started with Home-Start Barnet as a volunteer, and in 2012 was offered a part time Coordinators role on the Community Coaching project. Since then I have taken on the roles of Family Coordinator, Volunteer Coordinator, and I am now working on both the Step Up Project and Community Coaching. My background is in managing pubs, Stage Management and Youth work. On a personal level, I have seven children who are all crazy about football, which has in turn given me the opportunity to become a qualified football coach.
Corinne Comerford – Money Smart Coordinator
I started volunteering with Home-Start Barnet in2007 and supported many families. I was then offered the role of Community Coach Coordinator on a pilot project in 2012, after a very successful run, this unfortunately ended in March 2013. I was then offered a job in Home-Start Haringey, where I trained to be a Money Smart Coordinator. After much persistance, I finally came back home, to Home-Start Barnet, where I am now the Money Smart Coordinator, training volunteers and offering one to one support in Money Management to families in the Boroughs of Barnet and Harrow.
Huma Imam – Group Play Worker
I started work with Home-Start Barnet in October 2012 as a volunteer. Everyone at Home-Start were very welcoming and friendly which made me wants to be more involved in the projects they offer. As I have previously worked with children and having 3 children of my own, I knew I wanted to work with children. In June 2013, I started working as a Group Play Worker at the Family Group. I work together with other colleagues twice a week in running as group session where children and parents are welcome and engage in different activities. I also volunteer and visit a family once a week which Home-Start Barnet provides support to. I am married with 3 children and have been living in Barnet for the last 25 years.
Helen Andronicou – Perinatal Health Coordinator
I first started with Home-Start Barnet as a family volunteer in October 2012. I was then given the opportunity to be involved in the Charity Shop project and after a successful interview, I was given the job as one of the shops managers. I have in total, 30 years of retail experience, having owned my own businesses, so I felt this would be perfect for me. I am married with 2 children, a boy and a girl, who is now married. Must not forget to mention, Max, the dog!
Shayo Fadipe – Family Coordinator
I am one of the Family Coordinators here at Home-Start Barnet. I started in October 2016 but this is not the first time I have worked at Home-start. In October 2014, I was lucky enough to have my first placement here as a social work student. Although I was only at Home-Start for three days a week I learnt things that were invaluable and that would give me the necessary skills I need to work with vulnerable families and families who were in need of support and/or intervention. Now as a qualified social worker, I see myself as even luckier to have been given another fantastic opportunity to come back and work for Home-Start Barnet as a family coordinator. I thoroughly enjoy working with amazing people who are trying to give back to the community and make a positive difference in people’s lives. I can honestly say it is the most tremendously rewarding job I have done in all of my adult life and I am grateful to be part of something great within Home-Start Barnet!
Jess Keen – Fundraising Manager
I’m very excited to have joined the Home-Start Barnet team as Fundraising Manager. Over the years I have worked in a number of fields, this includes three years as an ESOL teacher in Madrid during my early twenties. On my return to the UK I spent over eight years in sales roles in the magazine publishing industry. And after starting my family I decided to draw on my passion for dance, teaching movement and dance to pre-school children in Islington and Haringey SureStart Children’s Centres.
I was thrilled to be given the opportunity to build on the amazing fundraising effort already taking place at Home-Start Barnet. I will be drawing on my sales experience to help this effort, but am keen to get together with volunteers sometime in the near future, to discuss how we can maximise donations.
