Volunteer with us
Help out at events
Would you like to volunteer with us?
Volunteering at an event is a fun and easy way to help us be there for families when they need us most. Whether you can spare an hour or two once a year, or want to get involved more often, whatever time you can give is invaluable.
What you’ll do
Home-Start attends various community events during the course of the year. We need volunteers who are able to give a few hours at these events to help with activities like setting up stalls, shaking fundraising buckets, cheering on runners, or simply serving teas and coffees.
You don’t need any prior experience to volunteer at these events, just a willingness to “pitch in” and a sense of fun and enthusiasm.
How you’ll help
Every week, Home-Start volunteers give countless hours of their time to support local families who are facing challenging times. By helping at our events, you will help us raise our profile in the local community and encourage donations so that we can continue to offer this support to families and their children when they need us most.
What you’ll get
The main thing is you’ll have fun! These events are generally buzzing with a feel-good atmosphere and there is lots of smiling and laughing throughout the day. You’ll meet members of the Home-Start team – staff and/or volunteers – and they will be there to offer guidance (and most likely, cake) throughout the event.
You’ll also be invited to bi-annual volunteer events throughout the year where you can meet other volunteers from the local community.
If you’re one of our corporate partners, you’ll also be able to record the hours for your corporate programme if this is part of your package.
“Helping out at the Fun Run was…well, fun! There was a great atmosphere and everyone I met that day was so friendly and encouraging. It’s made me think about volunteering more regularly.”

How you sign up
Once we receive your enquiry, our Volunteering Manager will be in touch to arrange an informal chat. They can talk you through any upcoming events to see if you are able to attend, or keep in touch for future events.
From there, it’s up to you how much you get involved!
