Volunteer with us

Volunteer at our family groups

Would you like to volunteer with us?

By helping out at our family group, you can support parents as they engage and play with their children in a safe, encouraging and inspiring environment.

What you’ll do

Every week, our Activities Coordinator and group volunteers host two stay and play groups for families with pre-school aged children at Grahame Park Community Centre. If you have a genuine passion for supporting and encouraging parent and child relationships, we would like to hear from you.

You don’t need any previous volunteering experience, but experience with children (as a parent/carer, or similar) would be great. Other than that, you simply need a “can-do” approach and a love of play and fun!

Our groups run from 10:00 – 12:00 on Thursdays and Fridays and we would ask that you are able to commit some time before and after for setup and clear away. You don’t need to be able to help on both days.

How you’ll help

Our families are often facing challenges that can mean finding time for simple play and fun can be hard. By volunteering at our group, you can create an environment for them where they can interact and have fun with their children and meet other parents from their local community. This can help them build their own network of friendships and support.

What you’ll get

Our volunteers often comment on how much value they get from the relationships they build with their families; they talk about how they get more than what they put in. It’s true that doing good for others makes us feel better!

You’ll receive comprehensive introductory training, providing you with the tools and confidence to work with our families.

And you will have ongoing support throughout your volunteer journey with us. This includes regular supervision, further training opportunities, and bi-monthly support meetings with the rest of the team.

“My daughter looks forward to the kids get together every Thursday. She has learned so much already. She’s learned to play with other kids by sharing the toys and sitting and eating with them. You have even encouraged her to start drinking milk and to eat fruits.”
